Sega Loves Nintendo… but Sonic 4: Episode 2 Won’t Be On Wii (video script)
by Anthony J. Gomez
I’m just going to come out and say I was never a fan of
Sonic. I never understood his
appeal. When I was growing up,
kids would always say he has attitude and he is faster than Mario. He’s cooler.
Blast Processing! I still don’t know what that is…
I only remember trying Sonic 2 at the video game store. Or at a friends house. Other than that, I didn’t really care for
Sonic. Because Mario was
king. Of course as a fanboy, I didn’t have any evidence to back up my
arguments. Mario rules. Sonic sucks. End of discussion.
Now as an adult, I don’t really care either way. I bought this collection of Sonic games
to finally give the blue guy a chance.
His games aren’t really that bad, but from a gameplay standpoint, I
would still argue Mario games are better.
This really tripped me out to begin with… I’m playing Sonic games on a
Nintendo console? What dimension
have I fallen into? Is this
real? Am I real?
Sonic has a huge fanbase and are as devoted to him as fans
are to Mario, maybe sometimes a little too devoted to him.
But does Sega care about the fans? Recently, Sega’s digital brand manager Ken Balough had
confirmed on Sega forums that Sonic 4: Episode 2 won’t be on Wii. He says:
"The reason Episode I was on the Wii was because we wanted to
bring the Sonic 4 saga to the widest possible audience. Episode II
unfortunately will not be coming to the Wii – for reasons most people have
probably guessed, but that doesn’t mean the SEGA isn’t supporting Nintendo
platforms, we have a very strong partnership and will continue to do so."
So that’s kind of like a big F U to Sonic fans that have
Wii, isn’t it? It’ll only be on
XBOX 360, PS3, and smartphones.
I only bring this up because I have heard Sonic fans
complain so much about Sonic over the years and I don’t understand how they
continue to enjoy his games. It’s
like a TV show that was good at first, but then starts releasing crappy episode
after crappy episode until it’s almost unwatchable. After awhile, people get sick of it and move on. Not Sonic fans. They’ll bitch about all the crappy
episodes and request, “sir, may I have another.”
But rumor has it Sonic 4: Episode 2 isn’t coming to Wii
because of Nintendo’s 40 MB limit for WiiWare games. The same reason Super Meat Boy couldn’t be on Wii.
So, should we all be blaming Nintendo? If Nintendo didn’t have the limit,
you’d be enjoying another entry in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It’s their fault, right? What do you think?
Who cares? Sonic sucks anyway. (Sorry. That was 90s me talking).
